Today, I decide try the new broadband in Malaysia, P1 WiMax. I always like give a chance to new market, at the same time, have a great choice for myself.
P1 WiMax Box
P1 WiMax Box inside
P1 WiMax Modem Front
P1 WiMax Modem Back
After fitting the modem, I like give my thought about the external view of P1 WiMax. The advantages are the modem is lighter and no fixed line and no messy wire around.
The disadvantages are no wireless router built-in, which is not a big issue as I got the wireless router and the size is bigger. It may not convenience, especially for whom you’re bring along and travel around.
The package that I subscribe for both broadband are Streamyx 1.0m and P1 Wimax 1.2m, which is cost me RM88 and RM98 respectively. P1 WiMax is promoting its broadband. You can try 15 trial days with fully refund if you’re unsatisfied. With 1 year contract will cost you RM98 per month, you will able extend to 2 years contract during 1 year contract if you’re satisfy their service and performance, it will save you RM10 every month therefore. No contact, will charge you RM108 per month. For comparison, price is not a big key turn lock your choice nor the look.
I like to know how well performance of P1 WiMax and I did some test by SpeedTest.
In this testing, the download speed of Streamyx is up to 1333 kb/s, which is faster than P1 WiMax.
Then I did the test from server located in Houstan TX, US.
In this case, you can see the download and upload speed that P1 WiMax faster distinctly.
What do you think?

Many have said we’ve to try and move the modem around the house and the signal may be better elsewhere. Also, I’m not sure why but it seems when they put it near the window it improves. *shrug*
Vincent on December 21, 2008
Ya, I agree with you as the technician told me the same thing, put near window but the wire is short, I can’t take it to.
After 2-day try, it’s fast loading especially in oversea server. The weakness is connecting signal is week. Then I plug my Streamyx to continue my work.
Anyway, there are 15 trial days, I will continue subscribe if it’s stable else will cancel.

From your review, i can describe that we can get consistent downloading speed but sadly there is no P1 coverage at my area

What a waste to own a P1. Do they expect us to always run around looking for signals in our house? Or i think they ecpect to put hte moderm on our roofs. I love to say to P1 management a big thank you for cheating me and for all the white lies they have told me about how great the service is but to me the bus services in malaysia are better then the promises and services P1 provides. I sincerely regret owning one but am stuck with the contract of 2 yrs, i hope they at P1 are happy cheating their customers

Dear T I Money, I’m a user of P1 also, and I’m pissed off just like you. I’m in the process of compiling complaints from other users. Please e-mail me as if we have large amount of complainants, then, we can complaint to Malaysian Communication & Multimedia Commission. My e-mail is : vostro73@gmail.com Thanks

You guys had some problems too????Same ere….Do they expect us to always change places just to make sure I get the right amount of angle for signal reception??!!Now i can only access internet like 15-20 mins a day bcoz this stupid W1MAX modem kept blinking2 (no signal)..Very lousy..when i tried asking the Self Care Hotline..They did asked me to reset, switched on-off,(which i already did b4 i called them),and asking me to move around the house..Then i simply asked them,”Do u want me to hang the modem outside the window???”..When i went to Jalan Templer in order to terminate the services, they forced and insist me on paying rm999(in order to fulfill the contract)..How TF*** am I suppose to comply to that as I didn’t get a stable connection and being a total idiot paying them rm99 a month noticing that I didn’t had the connection. Sometimes I really need internet I had to go to some hotspot places bcoz my WIMAX IS SO UNRELIABLE…..I hope WIMAX is SATISFIED by ROBBING US BLINDLY!!!!…I’d rather use the ol’ streamyx. Eventhough it is slow,at least I still could connect to the net 24-7..
Mad&PissedOffGuy on June 29, 2009
oh yeah..by the way…i did tried the 15days..it was ok..no problem at all.the speed at the moment was noticeably quite faster than streamyx..right afte a month of trial, things get worse.damn..i feel cheated…

I’m using P1 just over one week, on the LITE package with me paying RM49 per month. For the time being its ok. I’m not into heavy download but using Limewire & torrent is still good. As for the negative comments, I think I understood. Luckily for me, the one who sold me P1 were straight forward when I asked all the tech question. Including if I would faced problems if I stayed on high floors. Speed stays moderate & rarely full. Better daytime & night (quite fast) but goes slow after midnight. But download & uploads still can run. No disruption yet. My advise is for buyer to go for trial first as the seller did mention this, as diff spot have diff connections & problems. My verdict. Good value for money but need to improve their sales & tech ppl coz I heard a lot of complains about that. Will review again soon.

P1 is terribly unreliable. I truly wish I had read the reviews prior to signing up because it’s a massive con job. It is infuriating that they expect customers to pay for non-existent or semi-existent internet service.
It requires about 2 weeks of constant hounding over the phone to dig the truth out from them which is they are taking about a MONTH to upgrade their service. So yes, people, ONE MONTH of semi-existent internet. Worth it? I think not.
Complain enough, one rep will crack and tell you the truth.
And yes, the papers should be informed.
Mark Lim on September 8, 2009
P1 cust service thinks we are all suckers! I told them I don’t hv a problem with dload. Except that upload i get less then 1kbps. This is nuts. They assume everyone is amateur user, whereas I am a CCNP. Still ask me to do basic troubleshooting.
Rashid on September 9, 2009
Well, I am having the same problem. I am actually not into “wireless” broadband because I had tried Celcom’s, U-mobile’s and Maxis’s and they all not up to what they promised (not even close). Unfortunately I had moved to Bandar Mahkota Cheras with no fixed phone line, so I can’t continue my Streamyx 4.0Mbps. Because I still need internet for my business, I tried P1-Wimax. First month (Jun09), OK-OK, getting minimum speed which they promise at least 600kbps (my plan RM99 (1.2Mbps-Download)). Second month, I having 200kbps almost everyday with 3-7kbps of upload speed!! I complain every day and their “lying to customer” officier said thier in progress to upgrade and this will take until end of November. Meaning that we all will pay RM to P1 Sdn Bhd for nothing for 5 months (at least) to make them richer.
So my advise, (not to promote Streamyx) just use Streamyx if your area covered. Forget about wiring mess, I think better my feet strangled with wire compare to my neck strangled by P1-Wimax blood sucker!!

Hi T I Money, I suggest you to report these to Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum (CFM) at http://www.cfm.org.my. This body responsible to monitor fixed line, handphone line provider, internet and television & radio services, and all these providers have to have clean record in order to maintain their licenses. If we all do complaint in proper way, not only our right and money protected, but we will have these companies improve their services and at the same time our country will meet their MSC standards.

i am a wimax customer since they started and from the second day till today i have not faced any severe problems on regards of the connection speed or signal( 1st day had hard time looking for spot to place my modem!!) speed is consistent and very reliable, slow connection problems only breaks out when i have used more than the allocated bandwidth,(fair usage policy) and this only occurs towards the end of the month which is bout 26th to 28 when the bill is paid then everything is back to normal. i have used maxis broadband, streamx, celcom broadband, izzi broadband, and my sister using digi broadband, the best from my experience will be definitely p1wimax, and second streamx

our company in puchong is using P1 wimax and the speed is very slow. Most of the time below 0.5 M. the IT guy always move the modem around the office like a fengshui master looking for a auspicious spot. i think the best place to put the modem is outer space hanging in the air with no wire ha ha ha!

It is depend on which website/server u surf. Like my Streamyx 1.0m go very slow connection when surf china server, but normal for yahoo, google, mail… My frenz in Singapore said that he dun have any problem to explore the same china website; furthermore, he used IE8(slow) but I using firefox.
So, wat I think some web server go very slow it’s bcos our server did not put it on priority. One line share to many, even for fixed line streamyx. Definitely, they can control at their server even they said it’s a line for u.
Next wat u think abt wireless? Do it enough to share? I guess it will like celcom, maxis and digi someday. Smooth on certain time only, even streamyx go slow from Fri night till Mon morning…(for mine).
Does it really worth to switch? hmm…think all the same, juz choose the cheapest 1 ..haha
Vincent on September 18, 2009
Yes, It’s freaking slow when access to china website. Even I try reload it and wait after few minutes, the site is still loading.
At the end giveup.

My advice is, switch to digi broadband if your area is covered.
The 1st week I subscribed to digi broadband as soon as it was launched in Kota Kinabalu, the average speed was 1000 to 1300 kbps despite their promised average of 700kbps only. File download speed was at average of 110 to 150KB/s.
Then it drops. BUT, a big BUT, it’s still having an average speed of 200 to 385 kbps. Another BIG BUT this is happened in the area I leave only (though within the coverage of 3G). Outside area still remains the same good speed. Always hanging around 800 to 1200 kbps.
I called helpline and they confirmed there was a problem with my area and will rectify it. Unfortunately, the speed remains the same, at EDGE speed (max 384kbps). The last time I checked, even with EDGE, it is still MUCH MORE better than your case.
Before the problem exist, I can watch youtube WITHOUT any delay. Buffering was much more faster than playing. It means I can watch without lagging AT ALL.
The was ONCE when I shocked with the incredible fast speed in surfing and decided to have a speed test. You guess what I got? A 13+,+++ kbps (don’t read wrongly, it was 13.++Mpbs!!! This was a FASTEST internet connection I have ever seen in Malaysia and guess won’t be able to see it again at lease for years to come
Thereafter, back to around EDGE speed again, which I think is still much more batter compared to yours.
I don’t have experience with “MASUX”, but the last time when I try “CELCUX”, I was worse than 56k dial-up.
Vincent on September 22, 2009
Hi Mr Su, thanks for your review. How about the speed of digi broadband when access to china website?

I’m moved to Mahkota Cheras and subscribe P1 Wimax not long ago. My connection is far too slow after the 1st two month of subscribing the Wimax. I have file a complain to them since August but they never take serious on my case. If you also facing the same issue, kindly drop me an email. Thx.

P1 wimax doesn’t works on my HP Mini 110 laptop. The network cable didn’t shown any blinking light when i pluged in the network interface but the same i applied on streamyx, it’s works.. Sound weird right? Anyone know of any solutions?
azuwan on October 26, 2009
when it comes down to wireless…speed & load balancing & signal will be the issue..when the user increase the process also increase which might affect the performance of the backbone.compare to wired broadband it is more reliable because the signal are consistent.
i also use celcom broadband.i get the maximum speed during early hours or should i say most of the most broadband user are sleeping.
streamyx still the most reliable ISP compared to others although their speed is like duhHHhh sometimes..
Raden on October 26, 2009
I have been using P1Wimax since Jan 2009, and very satisfied with their performance. I did experience bad connectivity in Mar-Apr but it has since improved.
Location of modem is to blame for the quality. I get 1.0mbps or lower with modem in my room. But when placed by the window in the living room, i consistently get 1.2~ 1.4mbps except once or twice a month when speed was slightly slower but never get any lower than 0.6mbps.
I am in Johor Bahru and 1km away from their office. Perhaps thats why i am lucky to consistently get good connectivity. Overall, way much better than celcom or TM. Touch wood, hope they maintain good service.

I hate P1 Wimax. I have just subscribe to greenpacket wimax called P1 last monday (26th October 2009). And I would like to say that the download speed is fantastic, but the upload speed is stupid like fuck.
No work could be done if the upload speed is a failure. We cannot upload attachment or documents. As a conclusion, I am returning the stupid P1 modem on saturday at the green packet office and will be making a ruckus at the office.
They would probably need to call the police or security to make me leave the premises and not making a scene. I will definitely sue and counter sue green packet for their stupid lies to the malaysian people and consumer alike. May green packet burn in hell!

Hello all, i juz read all the customer reviews related to P1 WimaX.
I do have very very very bad experience according to this “excellent” product.
I was stremyx user and becoz recently they do have some prob which i couldnt on9 properly, so i change to broadband to P1 and teminated my streamyx. (previously, i got comments some frens and they mentioned P1 actually is quite good). Unfortunately, i was very very upset, disappointed, pissed about this product.
They sent me the P1 modem set via courier, i was so happy and excited when i saw the solid modem, after plug in everything, the red line was keep blinking and i couldnt get any signal at all.
At 1st, i tot is quite normal since the technician mentioned that i need to on the modem for 24 hours only i can get the signal, alrite den, i followed his advise and after 24 hrs i found THE RED LIGHT WAS KEEP BLINKING!!
Called to their hotline 1300-800-888 for help the officer cannot help me at all but keep saying sorry. For me, im quite a simple user, i juz need a stable connection without disconnect when i on9 and im not a gamer, juz normal surfing and msn with frens.
I found that P1 couldn’t fulfill my basic requirements and be4 i subscribe to dis service, i did check out my coverage as well. My area is in the coverage!
Called N times to their hotline but nobody can help me and i rmb an office name MR AKMAL HAKIM, when i told him, i would like to terminate my P1 since i really can’t stand anymore. He didn’t bother at all and juz telling me “pls return the modem to ur nearest branch”. I was so pissed and claimed that P1 was the one who nv provide me any service and right now wanted consumer to return to modem. I felt tat is quite wasting my time, energy and pretrol!! So riduculous! i felt like kena cheat by P1 and they don’t bother to serve a customer. Im wondering how they running their business and bulild up a good reputation and goodwill. When i requested talk to his higher management, he mentioned that only few officers were working there and there was no supervisor or manager there. Definitely i don believe statements coz i’m in service line, no matter how, im pretty sure that at least a leader need to be there on duty.
For conclusion, i felt me myself was cheated by P1 and their service is really really really worst.
So ladies and gentlemen, pls STAY AWAY FROM P1. Try it if u don believe my story. It was really happened!!

Okay guys, here’s my 2cents of advice. First of all, I’ll let u know that ‘m a pretty hardcore downloader as i own a rapidshare premium account. I’ve been using the streamyx 1.0mbps connection for months now and thank God, so far the ONLY problem is well, the download speed. On average, i get consistent DOWNLOAD speeds of up to 120-130kbps PER file. I don’t use p2p sites and torrents because they’re a BLOODY WASTE OF TIME. Then last month, as I went to pay my streamyx bill as susal, this P1 sales guy came up to me outside the shop. HOW IRONIC, P1 people were actually advertising OUTSIDE the TM POINT shoe near my place, haha. Anyway, this guy who came up to me tried to tell me EVERYTHING he knew about wimax, and so i listened. After he finished (leaving out the fair usage threshold part), I asked him, “ok, you are telling me all this, but i got 1 thing to ask u, is there a limit at which my download speed will be reduced every month?”. Obviously, I was referring to the download threshold. The guy went “ahhh, wait ah, i go and ask my friend”..Seriously, I LAUGHED MY FUCKING ASS OFF!!!!. But still i wanted to see what his “friend” had to say. He was wearing on of their promotional t-shirts that said “Download King”. So this guy came up to me and with a handbook of some sort started explaining to me about the download threshold. RIGHT AFTER that, without me even asking, he started telling me this, and i kid u not, these were his EXACT words “Eh brother, i tell u ah, u see my t-shirt, it says DOWNLOAD KING. Normally ah, now i use the ‘weemax’ right i can download a lot of tv show every month leh, because my speed damn kaw!. I can get to download 10 tv show and 3 movie in one month leh!!. Then when i reach the limit, i just download song lor, sometimes up to 30 songs.” Ok, at this point, i was about to bloody laugh my ass off. Then he continued, “U see ah, that is why they call me the download king, because i download a lot a lot”. At this point, i just couldn’t hold it back anymore and just laughed like a crazy fucktard. WALAO EH!!!!!!!!..To be honest, that’s how much i probably download in what, 2 or 3 days?. So, the moral of the story is, unless you are a person who is tooo rich and doesn’t mind paying for the P1 unlimited business plan connections, just stick with the basic streamyx, its better value in the long term. I tried using wimax for a month, but i gave up because of 2 simple reason
1) Frequent SLOOOOOOW connectivity
20 The stupid fair usage threshold
Its cheaper to just get a normal wireless modem and use it with a streamyx connection, at least the connection is stable and u can ALWAYS get constant, if not increasing connection speed.
CHEERS guys
